OK, there's more to it than that. I took a gap year between HS and my first year of college. But my parents weren't going to let me just melt into the couch cushions and play video games all day. So I applied to an internship with a forest management company in the NW. Basically, my job would be take bark (and other) samples. Which sounds simple but had a few technical twists, like knowing how to read a map, identifying tree species, and not getting shot by hunters.
